The Bride Trailer: Christian Bale & Jessie Buckley in Frankenstein Love Story (2025)

Get ready for a thrilling cinematic experience! Warner Bros. Pictures has just unveiled the first trailer for the highly anticipated film "The Bride," directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal and featuring the remarkable talents of Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale.

The official description of the film sets the stage for a captivating story: "A solitary Frankenstein makes his way to 1930s Chicago in search of Dr. Euphronius, hoping to create a companion for himself. Together, they bring back to life a young woman who has been murdered, resulting in the birth of the Bride. However, she turns out to be far more than either of them had anticipated, sparking a passionate romance, drawing the attention of law enforcement, and igniting a radical social movement."

Drawing inspiration from the classic "Bride of Frankenstein" by James Whale and Mary Shelley’s iconic 1818 novel "Frankenstein," this film features Buckley in the lead role of the Bride, while Bale takes on the role of Frankenstein’s creature. The impressive cast also includes Penélope Cruz as Myrna, along with Annette Bening, Peter Sarsgaard, Julianne Hough, and Jake Gyllenhaal.

In April 2024, Maggie Gyllenhaal shared some exciting first-look images, including a camera test showcasing Bale in full Frankenstein makeup. The film boasts a talented crew, including Lawrence Sher, the cinematographer known for "Joker," Sandy Powell, the costume designer from "Cinderella," and Karen Murphy, the production designer for "Elvis." "The Bride" marks Gyllenhaal’s second venture as a director, following her acclaimed debut with "The Lost Daughter" in 2021, which received three Academy Award nominations and featured both Buckley and Sarsgaard.

Interestingly, Gyllenhaal’s "The Bride" is just one of several Frankenstein-themed films currently in development. Notably, Netflix is working on its own adaptation directed by the renowned Guillermo del Toro, featuring Jacob Elordi from "Euphoria" and "Saltburn" as the reanimated monster. Del Toro’s version will also include a star-studded cast with Oscar Isaac, Mia Goth, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Christian Convery, Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz.

Mark your calendars! Warner Bros. is set to release "The Bride" in theaters on March 6, 2026.
