Pope: Let Christmas Music Be a Home for the Soul
Pope Leo addressed the artists and organizers taking part in the Vatican’s Christmas Concert, reminding us that the holiday season is a moment when God draws near to meet us within the intimate details of our everyday lives.

For 33 years the Vatican has hosted a Christmas concert in the Paul VI Audience Hall. This year’s performance will be held in the auditorium on Via della Conciliazione, near St. Peter’s Basilica, on Saturday, December 13.
During a meeting with the organizers and performers, the Pope highlighted how music accompanies our journeys, memories, and efforts. He described it as a shared personal diary that preserves our deepest feelings—nostalgia, longing, anticipation, confusion, and renewal—telling our stories with simplicity while also carrying depth.
God Meets Our Stories
“Christmas also shows us,” the Pope continued, “that in order to reveal Himself, God chooses a human setting. He does not rely on grand stages, but on a humble home; He does not reveal himself from afar, but draws near; He does not stay hidden in the heavens, but comes to meet us at the very heart of our small stories.”
The Pope noted that the proceeds from this year’s concert will support a Salesian missionary project in the Republic of the Congo, where a primary school for 350 students will be built.
This effort, he observed, serves as a reminder that beauty, when genuine, does not close in on itself but inspires responsible choices for the world.
With Christmas approaching, the Pope expressed hope that music might become a dwelling place for the soul—a quiet space where the heart can speak, drawing us closer to God and allowing our humanity to be touched and inspired by His love.
