Namibian and German schools celebrate a decade of partnership, marking a significant milestone in their collaborative journey. The Morukutu Primary School in Epukiro constituency and Ottenhoffen Primary School in Germany, through their partnership, have achieved remarkable feats and overcome challenges. This celebration is a testament to their shared vision and dedication to education and community development.
The partnership, established on June 9, 2015, has fostered an organization called Outjenaho, which has facilitated numerous initiatives. Jonah Kalunduka, the principal of Morukutu PS, highlighted the importance of this collaboration, emphasizing the alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) for Agenda 2030. Specifically, the partnership focuses on Goals 3 (good health and well-being), 4 (quality education), and 6 (clean water and sanitation).
One of the notable outcomes of this partnership is the provision of fruits and sanitary pads to learners every second week, addressing basic needs and promoting health and hygiene. Additionally, the partnership has contributed to significant infrastructure development at Morukutu PS. A borehole was drilled, a dining hall was constructed, greenhouses were established, and the school's playground was expanded. The annual grade six tour and teacher exchange programs are also sponsored by the partnership, enriching the educational experience for students.
However, despite these achievements, the school continues to face challenges. Kalunduka mentioned inadequate classrooms, a limited library, and administrative facilities, as well as poor internet connectivity. The community hostel struggles to accommodate all learners from distant areas, leading to overcrowding. These issues persist, requiring ongoing attention and support.
Martina Zoglowek, representing Ottenhoffen PS and Outjenaho, expressed gratitude for the positive impact of the partnership on Morukutu PS. She assured continued support for learners, including the introduction of vegetable soup in January 2026 and the installation of a solar system at the school. Zoglowek also mentioned an agreement with the Gobabis Vocational Training Center to provide technical assistance.
Floyd Hambira, a member of the partnership, highlighted the shared history and the potential for expansion to other regions in Namibia. He expressed delight in the progress and changes witnessed at Morukutu PS, emphasizing the brighter future it signifies.
The 10th-anniversary celebration attracted a diverse audience, including the Omaheke Governor Pijoo Nganate, the Epukiro constituency councilor Pineal Packy Pakarae, traditional leaders, and the Otjijarua village community. Pakarae praised the partnership for its positive contributions to Morukutu PS and pledged continued support for Namibian education.
This celebration not only marks a decade of collaboration but also underscores the power of international partnerships in driving educational and community development in Namibia. It serves as an inspiration for further initiatives and highlights the importance of sustained support and collaboration in achieving long-term goals.
